Podiatrists (previously known as Chiropodists) diagnose and treat abnormalities of the lower limb. They give professional advice on the prevention of foot problems and on proper care of the foot. Patients will be of all ages from infants to the elderly. The main aim of a Chiropodist/Podiatrist is to assess, diagnose and treat abnormalities and diseases of the lower limb.
The old fashioned idea that 'Chiropody' was merely cutting old ladies toenails is long since gone, modern chiropodists are podiatrists and treat every age and foot problem. Children through to their late teens will be advised on footcare and footwear, whilst minor problems e.g. ingrowing toenails can be cured. Young adults, including athletes of all sports, will be given suitable advice and may be fitted with bespoke orthoses which are long term, custom-made insoles, to modify and correct postural imbalances of the feet, legs and back.
Please note: Your first appointment will take extra time as an initial assessment needs to be carried out to ensure safe treatment, also patient records need to be completed.
